Yes. Our irrigators are licensed through the Texas Commission on Environmental Quality (TCEQ), the state agency that regulates sprinkler work in Texas, and we carry full liability insurance. Huntsville winters are mild by most standards, but Walker County still catches the occasional hard freeze that can split a backflow assembly or crack an exposed pipe. At a minimum, wrap your backflow preventer and any above-ground piping with insulation before a cold snap, and shut the system off and drain it when a deep freeze is in the forecast. Our Piney Woods yards sit on sandy loam over a clay hardpan, and with roughly 46 to 50 inches of rain a year the bigger danger here is overwatering, not drought. Soggy soil and heavy humidity invite fungus and root rot, so most lawns only need about one to one-and-a-half inches a week, split into two or three deep morning cycles rather than a shallow daily sprinkle.
